SONY MUSIC LAUNCHES GODS ROBOTS’ SELF-TITLED ALBUM

San Francisco & Mumbai Electronica Duo, Janaka & Shri's debut album to be available across digital platforms by the end of March 2013
Sony Music/Folktronic is all set to launch the much awaited debut album of the cross-continental electronica duo - Gods Robots.
US-based, veteran DJ / producer Janaka Atugoda & Mumbai's Carnatic trained vocalist Shridevi Keshavan’s album is set to create ripples amongst music lovers. The album consists of 12 original tracks – 9 & 3 bonus tracks that are characterized by cross-cultural melodies, sound sculpting, leftfield lyrics, and uplifting edge.
Thrilled, Janaka & Shri said, “We’re really excited to be releasing the album with Sony Music / Folktronic. This project is our dream state coming to life and the album’s the result of an incredible and creatively nourishing 3 year journey. We met and started working together via the net while meeting in ‘real-time’ 6 months later. It's been a surreal experience, which comes through in the music. Soon after, the music portal Bit Torrent backed us by showcasing 4 tracks & a music video. The music seems to resonate with people, they like what we have to say (which was humbling) and we today we find ourselves with a global fan base.”
Recorded in San Francisco, Mumbai and Delhi, the album features sarod virtuoso Alam Khan (son of legendary Ustad Ali Akbar Khan), flautist Mike Pipes and sarangi master Suhail Yusuf Khan.
The Gods Robots sound is defined by their unique blend of English lyrics juxtaposed with Shri’s ethereal voice and mesmerizing Carnatic alaaps - her vocal style is marked by a unique soulful dub inflected swing.
Janaka moves the tracks seamlessly between trip-hop, hints of ska, soulful melodies, beautiful Indian instrumentation, and elements of rock-like beats that take you from serene grooves to dance beats in one easy flow. Their seamless style is also characterized by underground bass rhythms and a pop-esque edge.
Each track tells a story. Their songs play with the increasing presence of technology in contemporary life while drawing from the wellspring of tradition and simultaneously transgressing boundaries, crossing continents. The lyrics evoke themes of longing, war, hope, love and humility; turning dreams into reality against the odds, connected by an overall sense of optimism. Far from a brooding space, these evocations are full of spirit and energy; the overall effect is emotive and beautifully uplifting.
Gods Robots high praises in the past:
"...fuses radically different musical traditions, all of which come together like a post-Millenial Portishead album" MTV IGGY
“…the band to watch out for” BBC Radio One
"Gods Robots cutting edge sound...have defined an earworm-inducing sound" MTV Desi
This album will be released by Folktronic (Sony Music Independent) on digital platforms worldwide by the end of March 2013. Additionally, a limited number of physical copies (which include the 3 bonus tracks) will be available exclusively in India from April 2013 onwards.

Starcast of the film ‘Sare Jahaan Se Mehnga’ war against Price Rise!!

Star cast of film ``Saare Jahaan Se Mehnga`` Sanjay Mishra, Ranjan Chabbra, Pragati Pandey and Disha Pandey were on hunger strike against price rise at the Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
The dharna was to express unity with the middle class over possible increases in prices in the upcoming budget.
According to the director Anshul Sharma, the idea to make a film on the subject struck producer Ashok Pandey when the price of onions shot up in 2011. “Increase in the prices of onions, which is a staple diet for the large middle class population, had a cascading affect on the budgets of various households. The common man has been hit by the high rate of food inflation.”
Actor Sanjay said: “The tax-paying middle class is already overburdened. It is high time they got some relief in the Budget,” says Sanjay.
The story is a hilarious and satirical take on Mehngai (inflation) through a middle class family from a small North Indian City. The family, crushed under the burden of Mehngai. They try to deal with it through an ingenious idea, not realizing the problems they would get tangled into as a result of this idea. It is a hilarious journey of this family battling these issues.
The film releases on 8th March.

ANIMAL ADVENTURER DONALD SCHULTZ UNDERTAKES GLOBAL MISSION FOR RARE VENOM AND DNA SAMPLES IN WILD RECON

- Airing every night at 9 pm in March, Animal Planet’s series circles the globe for dangerous missions and potentially life-altering scientific discoveries -
It's one of the most dangerous jobs on the planet, but animal adventurer, adrenaline junkie and venom expert, Donald Schultz is willing to risk his own life to do it. Whether harvesting venom from the fangs of deadly black mamba in South Africa, collecting deadly jelly fish tentacles off the remote coasts of Papua New Guinea, or bringing down a 400-pound wild African lion to get a blood sample, Donald is fearless in the worldwide pursuit of bio-specimens for research and potential new scientific discoveries.
Airing every night at 9 pm in March, Animal Planet’s exciting series Wild Recon will feature adventurer Donald Schultz, who faces some of the Earth's mightiest, deadliest and most fascinating creatures in their natural habitats.
While other children were out playing soccer, nine-year-old Donald was busy catching and handling the deadliest snakes on the planet. Donald Schultz is willing to do a job no one else dares. With support from the world’s top veterinarians and animal researchers, he travels to remote and jeopardous locales to collect venom and rare DNA critical to cataloguing species and research that will one day save countless lives.
Whether harvesting venom from deadly black mambas in Mozambique, collecting lethal jellyfish tentacles off the remote coasts of Australia, chasing and relocating charging elephants in Sri Lanka, or bringing down a 600-pound wild African lion to get a blood sample in South Africa, Donald is fearless in the worldwide pursuit of bio-specimens for research and potential new scientific discoveries that he hopes will save lives. As Donald himself says, “This is not a stunt; this is my job.”
“The work I do on Wild Recon is literally my life’s work,” adds Donald. “I’ve been going on these adventurous missions for years and now the series spotlights the jeopardy that I enjoy in collecting these samples on behalf of the research community. I’ve dedicated my entire life to working with animals.”
Born and raised in South Africa, Donald was the youngest person ever to give venomous snake demonstrations at the world-famous Fitzsimons Snake Park. But catching, caring for and studying snakes were not enough. Now, Donald travels the globe tracking down dangerous creatures, all in the name of science. He uses his animal acumen and taste for adrenaline for a greater cause, risking his own life for research that may one day save the lives of animals and humans.
Hiking through thick jungle undergrowth, diving to depths of hundreds of feet to sample shark species or skydiving into hard-to-get-to habitats, Donald stops at nothing to complete his mission. In addition, his missions are a race against the clock as he must get his fragile samples out of the field and into the lab for the next stage of work to commence. With Donald's help, researchers will hopefully unlock the mysteries of animal DNA, identify the blueprint for undiscovered anti-venom or even one day find a cure for a life-threatening disease.
Donald works closely with researchers at zoos, universities, laboratories, pharmaceutical companies and especially local governments and communities to assess their needs and identify what research could be critical to their ongoing studies.

Episode Description:
Alien Invasion
Animal adventurer Donald goes Down Under to Australia, home to some of the most venomous creatures on the planet. His mission is to find animals threatened with extinction by an unassuming toxic invader: the Cane Toad. He starts in the rugged bush, and when he finds his reptile targets, he takes venom and DNA samples from each one, in hopes of preserving these magnificent animals for future generations. Donald then journeys to Southern Australia, where he tackles a thrashing emu that weighs as much as he does. His challenge is to avoid the flightless bird’s razor-sharp talons long enough to get a blood sample for researchers. Finally, when night falls, he heads into the deadly waters off Queensland for his most dangerous mission of all: to grab rare, venomous sea snakes from a moving boat… by hand.
Rampage
Donald literally descends upon the Southeast Asian country of Sri Lanka in the aftermath of a brutal civil war – he becomes the only civilian to skydive into the nation in two decades. Production of antivenin has taken a back seat in this war-torn country, and, as a result, more than 1,200 of its people are dying each year from snakebites. Donald’s mission is a dangerous but lifesaving one: capture three of Sri Lanka’s deadliest snakes – the Spectacled Cobra, the Krait and the Russell’s Viper – and milk their venom so researchers can create antivenin. Donald then treks into the lowland forest in search of one of his favourite animals – the Slender Loris, a tiny primate with a bizarre toxic defense. Before his Sri Lanka mission is complete, Donald joins forces with dozens of men to find and relocate a rampaging rogue elephant that is terrorising local villagers.
Bounty Hunter
On this mission, animal adventurer Donald travels to the exotic nation of Belize, nestled between Mexico and Guatemala on the Caribbean coast of Central America. He sets out on a dramatic search for deadly animals that are the targets of poachers, like crocodiles, sharks and rays. His goal is to collect blood and tissue samples needed for research before these endangered animals disappear. He heads into the dense rain forest canopy to track down the loudest animal in the world – the Howler Monkey – a critically endangered primate that is falling prey to poachers. While there, Donald stumbles on his least favourite creature – a Tarantula spider that is nearly as big as his hand. In an unusual “milking” procedure, Donald anesthetizes the spider, then uses a tiny electric shock to draw its rare and understudied venom.
Border War
Animal adventurer Donald returns to his home country of South Africa for a new mission and to take stock on what his country has done to pave the way for aggressive conservation efforts. There, he is tasked with tracking down and extracting blood samples from a regal cheetah and two massive rhinos, and hand-capturing the fastest-striking snake in Africa, the Gaboon Viper. Along the way, he sees the effects of human intrusion on animal habitats – and the potential for disastrous encounters.
Bitten
Animal adventurer Donald Schultz is on a mission in Australia to collect samples from some of the most venomous creatures on Earth, including the deadly taipan and stonefish. His mission is jeopardized when he gets too close to one snake and is bitten, far from any medical help.
Desert Venom
Animal adventurer Donald Schultz journeys to one of the world's toughest environments: the deserts of Jordan. His mission in this unforgiving terrain is to track down and collect samples from animals that have adapted to life in this harsh landscape — deadly snakes, venomous lizards, camel spiders and hyenas. The samples Donald collects may hold secrets that could one day benefit people.
Lost Worlds
Adrenaline junkie Donald Schultz travels through Mozambique, South Africa and Tanzania. His mission: track down and collect biological samples from East Africa's biggest animals, including an elephant, a bull shark and a flying fox bat, then explore Pemba, a remote Tanzanian island with a history of black magic and forests that have never been scientifically chartered.
Hidden Cures
Adventurer Donald Schultz travels to ground zero for biodiversity — the rainforests of Costa Rica. His mission: find and extract toxin, blood and venom samples that may hold keys to human pharmaceutical breakthroughs from a range of animals, including poison dart frogs, a three-toed sloth and a newly discovered species of sea snake.
Moving Target
Animal adventurer Donald Schultz travels to the mountainous kingdom of Swaziland in search of a snake that has eluded him all his life, the berg adder. As he crisscrosses the country in search of this biological holy grail, Donald will come face to face with a deadly black mamba, tackle a giraffe and examine a lion for a disease which threatens to wipe out the local population — anthrax.
Ocean Killers
With shark populations plummeting across the globe, scientists are in a race against time to save these fearsome predators from extinction. Animal adventurer Donald Schultz travels to the Bahamas, Florida and California to obtain tissues samples from highly endangered hammerhead populations, elusive reef sharks and a menacing bull shark.

Mahi Gill plays the character of Madhvi Devi, late Queen of Jaipur

Mahi Gill plays the character of Madhvi Devi, which is partly inspired by the character of late queen of jaipur Gayatri Devi.
Following are the similarities -
a) Like Gayatri Devi Madhvi devi is flamboyant, stylish and socializes with her male and female friends .
b) Like Gayatri Devi she is also not the first wife of Maharaja.
c) Like Gayatri Devi she is fond of drinking.
d) Very much like Gayatri devi Madhvi devi too enters politics to assert her influence.
Filmmakers have been tight lipped about this as Gayatri devi is a very well known personality and any parallel between the two can potentially be very controversial.
Sources close to the film say that a significant portion of the character has been modeled on the late maharani of Jaipur. It can be very controversial as Madhvi devi is seen having an extra marital affair in the film.

Tigmanshu Dhulia Quote - "We haven't taken anything as such from Gayatri devi's life similarities between her and the character of madhvi devi if at all are purely coincidental".
Maharani Gayatri Devi was usually found in pastel French Chiffon Sarees.
“Graceful and sophisticated, I am a Queen all the way” – Maharani Gayatri Devi.

Ram Gopal Varma on The Attacks of 26/11 to release on 1st March 2013.

Ram Gopal Varma has made his most ambitious film till date – The Attacks of 26/11 produced by Alumbra Entertainment and Eros International. The filmmaker is gung ho about the way his most emotional movie till date has shaped up even though he agrees that this film is not something to be happy about.
Why did you launch the music of your film at Leopold Cafe where the attack first took place?
We all know the significance of that happened at that place. It was a tragic event and one of the most momentous events which happened in post independent India. One of the main reasons that I made this film was because I happened to meet the owner of the cafe Farzad Jehani and when he told me what happened it gave the idea on how to make this film. Everyone pretty much know what happened that night, but to see it from the prospective of a one particular person is different. The event would be perceived by different people with different prospective. The point is no matter how much somebody tries to intimidate or terrorize you, but people need to come back to their normal lives.
To that extent I think it is very correct to do the first look here at Leopold where it started. Not just to remember just the memory of pain, but also as a certain symbol of spirit. I would like to thank Farzad because he had to close this place down for three days for me to recreate the event which happened here.
The music of the film is rather gripping... tell us something about it.
I strongly believed as a human being that the attacks of 26/11 that had happened in 2008 was not really against a community. I think it’s a attack on human beings committed by certain human elements. So I thought the most rightful idea would be in combining maula maula and deva deva. Rooshin composed the song and Sukhwinder has sung it really well. Then Sukhwinder has sing another song called Raghupati Raghav Rajaram. What sukhwinder did for me is significant because it’s a sound of peace and most closest to a person like Mr Mohandas Gandhi. When I heard that song, it just stuck in my mind as a sound of peace. The fact that subject of 26/11 is so violent I just felt that this sound was the most correct counter point to the violence of the film.
Tell us the inside story. What was your source of information for The Attacks of 26/11 produced by Alumbra Entertainment and Eros International?
First of all I would like to tell you all that the intention of the film is to tell something that people do not know about. But I would rightly say that they may know what happened but do not know how that happened. How is the detailing in the emotional context? For example I am telling you a story of one certain person who was in this place. So I am not telling you the story of Leopold Cafe. The story is about one person and what he or she would experience and it is his emotion that we have filmed. So I have not tried to suggest any conspiracy theory or telling something which is not on a public record. It is a real event which is recorded. All the sources of information are from the highest authorized person as for this is concerned. What you will see for example you know the hijacked boat, but you don’t know what happened in the boat. That’s the point.
Do you have any real footage in the film? The trailers seem to suggest so.
Whatever you see in the trailors and promos is all created footage. There is no real footage from actual existence. My intention was to capture the truth, so we did a lot of research and spoken to people and police officers involved in it. It was recreated to the nearest extent possible.
Did your visit to the Taj help in getting a better idea for the filming The Attacks of 26/11 produced by Alumbra Entertainment and Eros International?
I have answered this a thousand times. I went there after 3 days since the attacks happened and when the operation is over. Whereas this film has nothing to do with what happened after the attacks. It has only to do with the night of the attacks from 9 pm to 1 am that night.
Is there any imaginary scene in the film?
No, there is no imagination. My research was on all the people wherever the incident happened.
Is Nana Patekar’s role based on any real life character?
Yes, it is based on Mr Rakesh Maria because he was at that time the Joint Commissioner of Police.
A lot of people are making films on real life subjects. What do you feel about that?
Films are the medium at the end of the day for any person who wishes to communicate something imaginary or real or he has to say something. I think different people have different motives behind making movies. I can’t generalize or answer for all of them.
In the movie industry there is not only one person, there are lots of people. I can’t speak on behalf of all of them. I can speak about myself.
What kind of controversy will the film generate?
It’s absolutely a non controversial film because nobody has a dispute about what happened and there is nothing like that there is the trial is still going on and there is an investigation taking place at the moment about what happened on the night of 26/11. There is no ambiguity about who was behind the attacks as well. Everyone knows what happened.
Why did you choose the character of Rakesh Maria to tell the story?
For me significance of Rakesh Maria happened to be the head of police so he becomes the face of the police in the said context. So playing through the emotion of a person is different from the playing the character. Nana Patekar represents the spirit of the police force and the character of Rakesh Maria and that is what I have thrown visually at the audiences.

SUNNY, SALLU TO LOCK HORNS ON EID

Usually, Eid has somehow become identical with Salman Khan at the box office. But come this Eid (which is likely to fall on August 8), and Sallu could have some stiff competition. Sunny Deol’s next ‘Singh Sahab the Great’ directed by Anil Sharma is all set to hit the screens on the same date.
Sources from the sets say, “Sunny is happy with the way the film has been shaping up. The drama and the action have brought so much confidence into the characters and Sunny feels Eid would be just the right date for the release.” Says Sunny, “The film is based on a common man’s life and Eid is one of those holidays when the aam aadmi is in a much happier space. Since the significance of this festival is also interpreted as a good time to bring people together in harmony and gratitude, we are aiming for an Eid release.” Is he scared of tough competition on the festive date? The actor shoots back, “The cinema business has changed. Since there are so many cinema halls, two big films can release at the same time. I am sure no one wants to take over anyone’s business.”

संजय गुप्ता ने प्रियंका के आईटम गीत के बारे में बताया "I chased Priyanka for 6 months before she agreed to do this song. It will be shot in next 3-4 days in Mumbai."
उन्होंने कहा "Feroze Khan and RD Burman are two people I wanted to work with in my career and this song is an ode to them. Probably if they worked together the result would have been this song."
संजय से जब पुच गया कि उनकी पसंद प्रियंका ही क्यूँ थी तो उन्होंने कहा कि "If there was someone who I thought could recreate the magic of Zeenat Aman or Parveen Babi, then it could only have been Priyanka." उन्होंने बताया कि प्रियंका को इस गाने के लिए मनाना इतना आसान नहीं था। "It has taken a lot of time for her to agree to it. I even showed her some parts of the film. She has agreed to do the song with the caveat that the lyrics won't be objectionable or have double meaning. I told her that she doesn't need to worry about it."
फिल्म की निर्माता एकता कपूर ने बिंदास तरीके में कहा "Priyanka is going to rock the song."

Sonal Chauhan makes her singing debut…

Sonal Chauhan debuts as singer with her forthcoming Eros International & Next Gen Films’ psychological thriller 3G. Sonal has lent her voice to the melodious song ‘Kaise Bataoon’
Taking her passion for music one step further Sonal sung this song with KK which has been released online. Music director Mithoon has composed this romantic track very beautifully which is soothing to the ear and manages to leave a mark with listeners wanting more. Sonal has always been affectionate of singing and its nothing less than ‘dream come true’ for her.
Talking about her experience says Sonal Chauhan, “One day I got a call from the producer asking me to reach a music studio. When I was told I had to sing, I was skeptical as I am not trained in it. They however insisted and when I recorded, they liked it. I have been a big KK fan and it was a great experience singing with him,”
Adds actor turned singer Sonal, “The director and producer of the film knew my liking for singing but I never thought I would end up doing that for the film!”
Adds producer Viki Rajani, "I have heard from director Shantanu that during the shooting of the movie the whole crew went for karaoke; at that time everyone realised that Sonal has a very good voice. As soon as I come to know about this I have asked her to reach studio immediately. After the recording we were so surprised and happy with her hidden talent. We tried several voices but felt that Sonal’s voice suits best with the song which benefited movie also. I am sure it will be a chartbuster song.”
Produced by Next Gen Films and Presented by Eros International , the psychological thriller starring Neil Nitin Mukesh and Sonal Chauhan is scheduled to release 15th March 2013.

Anand Kumar: Zila Ghaziabad Is Commercial Yet Realistic

So while there are filmmakers who either remain arty or go completely commercial there’s a filmmaker
who’s bridging the two. Yes, that’s Anand Kumar who is bracing up to see his realism meets masala cop
drama Zila Ghaziabad making it to the ticket windows this week.
It isn’t generally easy for a filmmaker to rope in known stars in a film and still manage to stick to his
guns. We often hear of filmmakers altering their scripts to suit the actors’ needs. However, Anand isn’t
the sorts to lose his vision. In fact, the filmmaker succeeded in bringing the likes of Arshad Warsi, Sanjay
Dutt, Vivek Oberoi and Paresh Rawal all under one roof that too while giving them roles that completely
redefine them.
“Arshad Warsi’s character is one to watch out for. He is definitely going to be the new age Gabbar,” says
Anand excitedly talking about Zila Ghaziabad which hits the theaters this Friday.
But was it easy for him to convince all of them and bring them together under one roof? “Arshad Warsi
played a key role in helping me bring others on board. I am good friends with his secretary and had
narrated Arshad’s character that I envisioned to him. He instantly got me in touch with Arshad who in
turn lapped up the idea of playing a super baddie onscreen. He is the one who suggested me to rope in
Vivek Oberoi and also Sanjay Dutt happens to be his friend so approaching him to play the cop also got
easier.”
Cop drama isn’t a new phenomenon to hit Bollywood for there have been many superstars who’ve
played cops on screen before. However, ask Anand about this and he instantly negates, “Zilla Ghaziabad
isn’t a mindless over the top commercial film. It is realistically rooted and bridges the gap between art
and commercialism. You can see it’s a mix between Omkara and Dabangg!”
Well, we hope the filmmaker truly attains in what he has set out to achieve!
